How many questions to answer before becoming a freelancer?

Listen to this article

What is the future of freelancing?

The future of freelancing is, in a word, very bright. Because the world is improving day by day. Different needs of people are increasing. Various new companies are being formed. New products are coming. Things with which ICT has a deep connection. Now as no company can be imagined without ICT, the company will need people to do many of its activities. And companies are trying day after day to outsource the work to freelancers to reduce their pay outs or salary of employees.

Thus day by day more and more freelancers are being created and the number of buyers is increasing. So nowadays the competition is very high and this matter is not as easy as before. There is no dearth of skilled people in this world now. So you have to develop your skills very well. Otherwise, if you develop a few skills and enter the freelancing profession, you will fail in two days.

Educational qualification and age

Many people are concerned about educational qualification and age, whether the difference in educational qualification and age will have any effect on freelancing or whether one can become a freelancer if he is under 18 years old or not. In short, since freelancing does not require you to go to an office and work, there is no need for an interview with a certificate. Work skills are required here. And if we talk about age, there is no fixed age here either. If you are under 18, no voter ID card or passport. But all the documents you need for freelancing can be done by using the documents of your parents or siblings. You will do the work yourself. Only the registration will be in their name. There will be no problem in this case.

But as a freelancer you will communicate online with a person i.e. the person who will do the work for you may be Bangladeshi, may be Indian, may be American – then think that you will definitely have a message/conversation with the person you will work with, so No? If you know Hindi then if you are from India you can speak Hindi, if you are Bangladeshi then in Bengali and if you are American you can speak nothing but English. Actually the online jobs are European, Americans are doing more and their language is also English.

So without English you cannot start freelancing. But you can start learning on the job. In addition to learning the English language, you must be able to write, read and understand well in English before you finish working. There are more benefits if you can speak.

I can speak English fairly well, whether by me or not

You may think that you are not very good at English. Can write fairly well but get stuck when it comes to speaking. No problem if you can write. But if I give you a small example, maybe the point will be clearer.

Suppose you are from North Bengal, and working in an office in South Bengal, where they speak the regional language. But if you use North Bengal language, will the office staff or the owner understand properly? Yes you will understand some, but to understand the whole will waste a lot of time and cause trouble here.

Just think like this, Europeans, Americans think ‘time is money’. And why would they want to waste hours in conversation with you about a job? Bangladesh and India have no shortage of people who know the language well. So you can’t learn this job by any kind of evasion, you can’t work either. So start learning English from today. It will be very useful in your future as well. Not just for freelancing.

Now you know very well the importance of English for a good career.

What other skills are required?

Suppose you know English well. So what can you do freelancing? Yes of course but ask yourself a small question :
Suppose you bought a bike, but don’t know how to drive it. You don’t know how to press the gear, how to go into neutral, how to turn on the lights, how to hard brake, etc. Can you ride the bike in this condition? Your answer must be ‘no’.

So, you must have a good understanding of the machine you will be working with. You will work on computers and the internet, but you must be computer and internet savvy. Freelancing is not for you if you run to someone else for help with a computer function problem, or if you run to someone else for help with a Facebook account problem. Freelancing is for someone who has the experience to solve your problems.

So if there is any such major problem you should have such skills that you can solve it yourself. If the problem persists, you may need to take it to a repairer. But still have experience about the basics

The list of them is given below:

1. Know how to turn the computer on and off.

2. Computer Microsoft Office program matters

Must know everything. (In this case you can take a 6 month training for computer.)

3. Typing speed should be good. There is no specific speed in this case. The better you can do.

4. Must know how to install and remove software.

5. Must have good understanding of internet browsing.

6. And if you have any problem related to the internet or you are not able to do any one thing, you should have the knowledge to solve the problem by searching on Google without asking your friend for help.

7. Must know how to install Windows.

8. Should have experience in troubleshooting any function.

9. If there is any problem related to software in the computer, one should have the knowledge to solve it by searching on Google.

In addition to knowing the lists given here, a small example will make you more clear. If you have used a smart phone, then you know about 80% of the functions of that phone. And exactly how you know how to use the mobile. If you have a problem finding something or browsing the Internet, you solve it yourself. Similarly you need to have knowledge about computer and internet.

On the other hand, if you only read about Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, etc., you are far behind. You need to be more digital. Not only these things are digital, you need to know more, like when you visit an unfamiliar website, you can research the website to find out which website it is, which company’s website, whether an account can be opened here, what information is required to open an account, etc. You should be very open and proficient with computer and internet above all.

Freelancing alongside education or employment

Many of us are employed and many are students. Everyone has a curiosity whether it is possible to enter this profession along with job or education.

Yes of course you can enter this profession along with job or education. This will help you generate an additional income. However, you must ensure that this freelancing does not interfere with your studies or work. It doesn’t matter what class you take or what job you do. You can do freelancing only if you have the things discussed in this book.

Monthly income of a freelancer

Most of us people first ask the question that how much money can be earned per month by freelancing. No one wants to believe the answer to this question. Actually a freelancer can earn from 1000 taka to 10 lakh taka per month. And if he works with a team, it can be even more. But if you work alone it is possible to earn from at least 10,000 taka to 4-5 lakh taka. And that definitely requires time and effort.

How long does it take to learn freelancing?

This is a wrong question. Why? Because freelancing is a profession. It cannot be learned. How long will it take to learn the work I will be doing as a freelancer? But here you have to select which job you want to learn.

Again, to know what job you want to learn, you need to know what jobs you can do to earn money online. Before that it is not possible to answer the question “how long will it take to learn”. One type of work has to be learned over a period of time. It is necessary to know in advance what work you will do and what is the future of that work.
