A certain method of gaining knowledge on Earth had been working pretty much the same way for a long time. For the first time since the advancement of information technology, that approach has started to change and we are getting familiar with some new term called e-learning. The term e-learning is an acronym for electronic learning and by this we mean the use of CD-ROM, internet, private network or television channels for teaching. It should be remembered that e-learning is not a substitute for traditional teaching methods, it is a complement to traditional methods. To give an example, while teaching a science subject in the classroom, many things may not be demonstrated hands-on. E.g. solar eclipse, Lunar eclipse etc. To teach in the classroom, the teacher can visually present the subject more beautifully with the help of multimedia. It can even be interactive.
We all know that the population of Bangladesh is huge. That is why the number of students in the school is huge. Due to various financial constraints, there is shortage of skilled teachers in our schools. There are no educational materials required for education. Laboratories are inadequate, resulting in very few opportunities for hands-on science experiments. E-learning can play a big role in solving these problems. A video of a skilled teacher teaching can be distributed to numerous schools. A variety of supporting mechanisms can be provided to students to understand a particular topic. If a teacher wants to, he can create his own material to support his teaching and use it again and again. Many teachers in Bangladesh are using it.
Various materials for e-learning have started to be developed all over the world. Many major universities of the world have opened numerous courses online and anyone can take the course. There are various tests on the subject and many times one can earn the necessary credits for that course by submitting his homework or taking it online.
Our Bangladesh is not behind in this. Bangladeshi IT professionals have developed several such web portals and anyone from all over the world can take those courses in Bengali language. Such sites especially suitable for training in computer programming have gained great popularity at home and abroad.
Although e-learning can play a big role in removing the limitations of good teaching in our country, we must always remember that it is by no means a substitute for traditional teaching. Conventionally, during teaching a teacher can see his students directly, talk to them, students can exchange ideas with the teacher in various ways, ask questions. Not only that, they At the same time, they can help each other, learn from each other. These things are often absent in e-learning, the process can seem mechanical as there is no human element in the whole process. For that reason, to make e-learning successful, students have to be more proactive.
We have a lot of opportunities for e-learning in Bangladesh, because many big limitations can actually be solved using e-learning. However, for traditional e-learning, there is a need to create Internet access, necessary infrastructure and e-learning materials. The current government is seriously developing such learning materials. This will enable our students to acquire world class education.
